New Gen Renault Clio

Interior design group project

Process showcase

Exchange student project at Strate School of Design Paris

The brief was to design a new concept for the next generation Renault Clio model. On this project I worked with a three-person team and focused on the interior. Done under the guidance of Renault’s designers at Strate School of Design.

Brief

Lifestyle

Setting the mood started with finding the key theme. Therefore, we took a playful approach to reflect the youthful and sporty energy we wanted to achieve with our design direction.

Design exploration

Architecture of a surrounding structure that frames the interior, flowing from the pillars towards the center console, giving a connection to the exterior of the car.

Initially the seating featured soft and flowing forms combined with dynamic architecture.

The concept was to allow for some freedom of movement by having the front backrests to turn on axis on autonomous driving mode. This was to incite a more spacious feel without complex turning seat mechanisms.

A sporty yet robust look in mind, the final design evolved into a combination of sturdiness, tension and lightness.

Final design

The goal was to have the interior feel more spacious despite the small package, and give a light yet robust feel. This was done by integrating strong architecture with openness to the design, creating flow.

The dashboard houses three layers in a simple wing design. The intent was to create a minimal yet iconic design

The roof architecture not only works as a structural element, it also houses a sound system and lightning element, which can be folded up to be used in and outside the car.
